Hi:
Before I got the white ibook (AKA fridge :-D) I found a page with a small utility for the previous ibooks to turn the lcd off if an external monitor was connected. Now that I have the ibook, I can't find the page. Has anyone got a link? And is it possible to turn the LCD off in MacOS (both X and 9)?

TIA,

Paulo

I'm trying to get sound working on my 2000 iMac running Debian 2,2. dmasound doesn't complain and works perfectly with .au and .mp3 sounds but .wav and CDs with cd-read-xmms just give out random noise. This is the case with both 2.2 and 2.4 versions of Linux.

Help! I'm using linux on an imac dv granite. this imac has software-only brightness/contrast settings and the MacOS values aren't loaded by linux, so I wind up with a screen that is painfully too bright. Is there any software package that will allow me to control the brightness? Thanks in advance! Joe Stewart

How do I swap the Caps_Lock and the Control_L keys on the iBook SE (graphite)? I know the xmodmap commands that would normally do it, but there seems to be hardware differences in how the Caps_Lock key works from other keyboards. Caps_Lock key generates a keyPress and keyRelease with one single key press (the light comes on). Then releasing the key produces no events. Then pressing the key again produces no events. Then releasing the key (light goes out) produces keyPress and keyRelease events. So once you use xmodmap to switch the keys, doing a control+f would give you a keyPress (Control), keyRelease (Control), keyPress (f), which just gives you a 'f'.

My iBook2 is working very well with benh's kernel. But if I am activating the external rgb (m3mirror crt:1) the picture is very bad... The monitor is unable to stabilize the signal (it is moving horizontally) .. Does anybody have a solution ? Thanks in advance !

I recently acquired an old Performa 6320 CD from a friend, and I want to run Linux on it. However, while I know that NuBus machines are now supported (kind of) I haven't seen a HowTo for installation. Has anyone seen a good HowTo, and what distro would be the best one for the job?

I have been able to have my airport card working great with linux-2.2.19, but the problem is that I haven't been able to tweak sound so that it will work with that kernel. Sound works great(of course aside from the mixer) with linux-2.4.7, but airport support doesn't work even though I have tried both to compile support into the kernel and as a module. Has anyone been able to tweak his/her ibook that that it works with both sound and wireless networking using the same kernel? Please respond back both as a post and by email, so that others with the same problem might learn something and also so that I can get a reply. Thanks for your assistance ahead of time. --David

Several people seem to have gotten DRI working on their iBooks (both firewire and iBook2) with recent versions of XFree86. Could someone post a HOWTO with all the details?

After trying to boot the 2.4.7 kernel on a beige G3 with LinuxPPC 2000 installed, Linux will not boot using whatever kernel. I even tried the original LinuxPPC install CD with no success. MacOS X and MacOS Classic, however boot and run fine.
