Hello,
my MacOS 8.6 hard disk is formated under hfs+. Now I want to read some files unter Linux. How can I do this? The Mac always mount the disk under hfs and that means he could'nt read it. I have SuSE LINUX 7.1 PowerPC Edition.

Thanks for your help

I have had no end of trouble trying to configure my internal 56k modem on my new 2001 iMac. It seems as if none of the modem programs installed can help, as none of their programs (kppp and the gnome one) could recognize my modem, much less dial out. With kppp, it gets as far as saying (when I click connect) "Initializing modem", and doesn't go any futher.
I am wondering were I should tell the program to look (/dev/modem?), and what I should put into the kppp dialog boxes to make it work.
Thanks a lot for anyone who can help me fix this.

it's great that my ibook goes to sleep automatically...but sometimes it screws up my other programs for example, AIM. my aol instant messager is always on, but after my computer starts to sleep automatically, my aim doesn't work when the computer wakes up again i guess i get kicked off aim automatically when my ibook goes to sleep.

I just installed Mandrake-8.0 on my iMac 333 and it was about the smoothest and easiest install I've ever made. Except for one small detail. I cannot seem to be able to build RPMS for SRPMS. Trying 'rpm --rebuild xxxxx.srpm' just returns the usage information for rpm. I then tried 'rpm -ivh xxx.srpm' and then tried 'rpm -bb xxx.spec' in the '/usr/src/RPM/SPECS' directory but get the same problem. Anyone having this problem. If so any solutions. Please help. Thanks - Ram

I just installed Mandrake 8.0 on my iMac. I can use rpm to install packages on this computer but cannot seem to build RPMS from SRPMS. Typing 'rpm -bb xxxx.spec' just returns the usage information for 'rpm'. I also cannot do 'rpm --rebuild'. Anyone here know why this is so and what needs to be done to build backages.

I compiled 2.4.10-ben0 with ReiserFS support included and then compiled the reiserutilities.
Next, I made a ReiserFS partition.
Next, I tried to mount it and that's when the problems started showed up: I couldn't mount it. On top of everything, the error message isn't telling me much:

# mount /dev/hda11 /var
reiserfs: checking transaction log (device 03:0b) ...
Using r5 hash to sort names
ReiserFS version 3.6.25
mount: Not a directory
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Running mkreiserfs, reiserfsck, debugreiserfs etc... everything seems to be working fine; it's just the mount that screws up.

I have been trying to get the new Mandrake 8.0 ppc distro installed on my iMac DV SE 2000. The install goes very smoothly, (chosing atyfb128 as my video option) and the graphical installer displays nicely. For the video option I then select the XFree 4.0.3 option and configure my monitor as iMac (these options seem to be the correct ones). However, when the system reboots and goes through the init process (still displaying everything nicely) it gives a very badly broken X login screen (monitor displays ~10 broken strips) Did anyone experience the same and if so , what was the solution? (I tried adding append="video:atyfb:vmode=17:cmode=24" but it gave me the same probelms. Any hints would be greatly appreciated, since I am really anxious to try the Mandrake set. Thanks ZagMac
